AI Community Health Check Scam: Fake Abnormal Results Used to Terrify Seniors into Buying Overpriced Health Supplements

The victims are primarily middle-aged and elderly individuals over the age of 60 who suffer from chronic illnesses and live away from their children. They have purchased community free health check-up cards, frequently visit wellness centers, or were added into 'health lecture' WeChat groups by acquaintances. Their psychological vulnerabilities are distinct: first, a lack of ability to discern AI and high-tech terminology, believing that devices lighting up and printing reports is scientific; second, an intense fear of cancer and illness, panicking instantly upon seeing fabricated reports such as '80% blocked blood vessels' or 'high risk within three years'; third, reluctance to admit being scammed due to saving face, sometimes even blocking their children from calling the police until their savings are completely wiped out. Some elderly people treat health supplements as a straw to clutch at, spending anywhere from thousands to hundreds of thousands of yuan in a single purchase.

Who Gets Targeted

骗局怎么运作

  • Step 1: Street promotion fishing. Gangs set up booths at residential entrances under the guise of 'community public welfare health check-ups' or 'smart elderly care in rural areas,' using free blood pressure checks and giveaways of eggs, rice, and flour to attract seniors into registering their names, phone numbers, and medical histories. This is actually used to build a targeted sales list, using the script: 'Government-subsidized project, limited slots available on a first-come, first-served basis.'
  • Step 2: Fake AI testing. They pull out white-label 'AI health analyzers' or 'quantum detectors,' which are actually ordinary electronic toys costing a few hundred yuan combined with preset software. By clipping a finger or wrapping a wrist for two minutes, a report with hundreds of metrics is printed out. The sales script claims: 'This machine is the same model used by Grade III Level A hospitals in Beijing, and a single test is worth thousands of yuan.'
  • Step 3: Intimidation conversion. The report deliberately displays abnormal items such as 'blocked blood vessels,' 'high tumor risk,' and 'extremely low immunity.' Presenters pose as 'health managers' or even fake doctors in white coats, conducting one-on-one intimidation of the elderly: 'Your condition cannot drag on for three years; hospitals cannot cure it, and you must undergo conditioning immediately,' manufacturing panic about imminent death.
  • Step 4: Closed-loop harvesting. Taking advantage of the situation, they promote health supplements, physiotherapy devices, or 'repair packages' costing thousands to tens of thousands of yuan. They demand cash or transfers to personal accounts and require the signing of a 'voluntary purchase confirmation form' to evade responsibility, while also inducing seniors to keep secrets from their children using the script: 'Your kids don't understand wellness, telling them will only lead to arguments.'
  • Step 5: Clearing accounts and running away. Once the store lease expires or complaints are received, they immediately close the shop and change locations. The same team reboots under a different brand name in a neighboring city, frequently changing the receiving entity. When victims try to hold them accountable, they find the company has long been deregistered, and the devices are merely generic white-label goods that cannot serve as direct evidence of 'medical fraud'.

红旗信号(看到这些快跑)

  • 🚩 Claiming that a single portable device can test tens of thousands of metrics within minutes and predict cancer or major diseases years in advance defies basic medical common sense. Regular medical check-ups require blood draws, imaging, and coordination across multiple departments.
  • 🚩 The test is free, but the report inevitably shows severe abnormalities, and the abnormal items on everyone's reports are strikingly similar, clearly indicating preset software templates rather than true measurement results.
  • 🚩 The so-called 'health managers' or 'experts' do not present physician qualification certificates, and there is no medical institution practice license on-site, yet they dare to issue disease diagnosis conclusions.
  • 🚩 Immediately after the test, they push overpriced health supplements or physiotherapy packages that are 'only discounted today,' urging on-the-spot payment and prohibiting taking the report home or rechecking at a regular hospital.
  • 🚩 Demanding transfers to personal accounts or frequently changing the receiving company, with signed agreements explicitly stating 'voluntary purchase, no returns or exchanges,' while implying that the elderly should keep it secret from family members.
  • 🚩 Promotional materials use heavy stacking of tech buzzwords such as 'AI,' 'quantum,' 'nano,' and 'aerospace,' yet fail to produce a medical device registration number that can be queried on the official website of the National Medical Products Administration.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ Family accompaniment for qualification verification: For any device claiming to test multiple diseases or predict cancer, first check the medical device registration number on the official website of the National Medical Products Administration. If it cannot be found or is merely a Class I or II household device yet claims diagnostic and therapeutic functions, treat it directly as a scam.
  • ✅ Adhere to the secondary recheck principle: Whenever 'severe abnormalities' are measured offline, do not pay money first. Take the original report to the corresponding department of a public hospital for a re-examination. A regular doctor's remark that 'this data is meaningless' can puncture the scam.
  • ✅ Cut off the payment impulse chain: Propose on-site to 'go home and discuss with children.' If the other party blocks you, urges you, or demands confidentiality, immediately save audio and video evidence and dial 12315 or 110, while contacting the community anti-fraud specialist for registration.
  • ✅ Establish a family financial defense line: Set up large-transfer delayed arrival or daily limits for the elderly person's bank accounts, and agree that any purchase exceeding five thousand yuan in a single transaction must be notified to children by phone beforehand, leaving no time window for same-day decision-making during intimidation-style promotion.
  • ✅ Identify community lead-generation routines: Stay vigilant against 'public welfare health check-ups' that give away eggs, rice, and flour, host free lectures, or pull people into chat groups. Anything that requires registering detailed medical history and contact information is basically a data entry point for subsequent targeted sales.
