Who Gets Targeted

The primary victims are elderly individuals over the age of 60 suffering from chronic illnesses, who generally live alone or lack companionship from children, and hold a high level of trust in TCM wellness practices. Their channels for obtaining information are singular, making them easily misled by online pseudo-authorities. Desperate to cure stubborn diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, and losing their judgment under the atmosphere generated by the group dynamics and the psychological manipulation tactics of fake experts, they ultimately spend their pension money to purchase high-priced, ineffective ordinary foods.

骗局怎么运作

  • Offline community stores use free blood pressure measurements or physical therapy experiences as bait to collect contact information from elderly individuals and establish WeChat community groups. Store clerks build trust through daily greetings, screening out target seniors with chronic pain points and strong purchasing power. They then post live-streaming links for wellness classes in the group to complete the initial private-domain traffic pool accumulation, bypassing direct regulation from public platforms.
  • Live streams are conducted on special, closed platforms with covert entrances requiring exclusive links to enter. During the live stream, lecturers packaged as divine doctors teach wellness classes, interspersed with forged cure case videos, using pseudoscience theories to exaggerate the hazards of chronic illnesses. Water armies (paid commenters) are active in the live stream chat, flooding the screen to build a rush-buying atmosphere. Seniors cannot find information about this platform on the public internet, forming a unidirectional trust indoctrination with a high degree of information asymmetry.
  • Hosts introduce a so-called online one-on-one consultation service, requiring seniors to fill out detailed health questionnaires and connect via video. Fake experts give frightening diagnoses mechanically based on the questionnaires, claiming seniors are on the verge of a myocardial infarction or cerebral infarction, and packaging ordinary taurine soft capsules or vitamins as special divine drugs capable of clearing meridians and winning Nobel Prize technology, fabricating a limited-time special offer claiming an original price of tens of thousands reduced to just a few thousand.
  • The live streaming room provides an exclusive customer service purchase link, with payment recipients mostly being shell trading companies. To prevent seniors' children from discovering the purchases, psychological tactics instruct seniors to place orders secretly behind their family's backs, and even instigate them to destroy the packaging boxes. Cash on delivery and mail-to-home delivery are supported, and for orders with huge amounts, dedicated personnel are even arranged to deliver goods and collect payments on-site, urging seniors to sign and confirm on the spot to bypass the offline transaction cooling-off period.
  • After-sales services construct a refund firewall. When seniors request refunds after receiving goods and finding them ineffective, exclusive customer service shifts blame using the excuse that physical constitution differences require increased dosage, or directly deregisters the live streaming account and customer service WeChat, while the store also changes its appearance. Taking advantage of the high cost of cross-regional rights protection and the weak evidence-gathering ability of the elderly, they quickly conceal themselves after a one-off deal, changing shells and reopening to continue harvesting other elderly groups.

  • 🚩 Claiming a single product can cure multiple chronic diseases, or even replace long-term blood pressure or blood sugar medications.
  • 🚩 The live streaming platform cannot be downloaded normally through application stores, requiring specific links or WeChat group mini-programs to enter without the ability to replay.
  • 🚩 The main speaker self-proclaims as a descendant of imperial physicians or a winner of international medical awards, yet fails to provide a practicing physician qualification certificate and verifiable practicing institution.
  • 🚩 The purchase interface does not provide regular e-commerce platform order numbers, and the payment recipient is an unknown trading company rather than a regular pharmaceutical or health supplement enterprise.
  • 🚩 Customer service explicitly suggests not telling children, or requests immediate destruction of the outer packaging upon receiving the goods to evade regulatory investigation and tracking.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ Children should install security software from regular application stores for seniors, regularly check unfamiliar group chats and mini-programs in WeChat on their mobile phones, and decisively exit and block them upon discovering covert live streaming entrances.
  • ✅ Inform seniors that any non-prescription products claiming to permanently cure chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes are untrustworthy, and require them to immediately verify with doctors at regular hospitals when encountering online expert consultations and prescriptions.
  • ✅ Retain live streaming room links, payment vouchers, and courier tracking numbers. When discovering that the payment recipient does not match the packaging enterprise name or the product is actually ordinary food, immediately complain and report through the 12315 platform or the national 12315 mini-program.
  • ✅ Communities should cooperate with market regulatory departments to conduct anti-fraud lectures aimed at the elderly, popularize the legal distinction between health supplements and medicines, and cut off the pathway of offline stores illegally guiding traffic to private-domain live streams.
