Live Streaming "Golden Egg" Blind Box Scam: Backend Controls 100% Winning Results, Over 400 Victims Defrauded, Classified as Opening a Casino

Victims are primarily young consumers addicted to card-ripping and blind box unboxing, alongside some middle-aged and elderly collectors. Enticed by pitches such as "9.9 RMB to draw a thousand-yuan figure" and "100% win rate," they repeatedly placed orders driven by wishful thinking to win big with a small stake, gradually losing rational judgment under the atmosphere of the live stream room and shill inducement. Many victims already had a gambling tendency, continuing to believe that "the next draw will break even" despite consecutive losses, ultimately spending thousands to tens of thousands of RMB only to receive cheap items like tissues and stickers, while being blocked during rights protection by "blind box randomness" clauses.

Who Gets Targeted

骗局怎么运作

  • The host uses a low threshold of 9.9 RMB in the live stream room to participate in "golden egg smashing/blind box unboxing," with the camera view stacked full of high-value prizes such as "thousand-yuan rare figures" and "new mobile phones," creating a sense of urgency that missing out means loss using slogans like "new account traffic boost, selling at a loss for benefits." The low entry barrier makes consumers feel the trial-and-error cost is extremely low, leading them to easily click payment links, laying the psychological groundwork for subsequent continuous payments.
  • Merchants deploy control scripts in the backend to real-time configure the winning results of each virtual blind box or golden egg. Consumers seemingly make random draws, but are actually assigned to preset low-value prize sequences, with the winning rate of true rare prizes suppressed to near zero. The script can adjust the proportion of ordinary goods by time slot and user dimension to ensure the live stream room is always profitable overall, making it nearly impossible for ordinary users to obtain the grand prizes advertised.
  • The live streaming team arranges "shills" to repeatedly post screenshots of "just winning a rare card" or "drawing a phone" in the public chat under the guise of ordinary users, coordinated with bullet comments like "another order" and "really won." The host also connects via livestream battles with shills to create surprising scenes, using herd mentality and loss aversion to make genuine consumers mistakenly believe the winning rate is high, subsequently following the trend to add orders and draw consecutively, forming group irrational consumption.
  • When consumers experience consecutive losses and hesitation, the host immediately switches to "guaranteed base" or "consecutive draws guarantee a win" tactics, inciting them to exchange higher amounts for draw chances or unlock "advanced blind box" tiers. The backend synchronously lowers the probability of high-value prizes while occasionally giving out small prizes to maintain the "illusion of winning," making users feel they are just one step away from the grand prize, trapping them in the sunk cost fallacy and sinking deeper.
  • After consumers complete payment, the live stream room often ships only cheap items severely inconsistent with the advertising, such as cheap tissues, keychains, and ordinary stickers, or even distributes only virtual cards, and refuses refunds. When users complain, merchants brush them off with excuses like "blind box special items do not support returns or exchanges" and "probabilities have already been published," and some live streams simply close stores and lose contact. Due to the decentralized amounts involved, individual victim losses are insufficient for criminal filing, facilitating the continued operation of the grey industry.
  • When local market regulation departments or the police intervene, merchants temporarily modify backend probability parameters and delete winning records in an attempt to destroy evidence. Some gangs also use multiple alter-ego live streams to operate in rotation; once an account is reported and banned, they immediately switch accounts and resume broadcasting. This "hit-and-run" approach greatly increases the difficulty of regulatory investigation.

红旗信号(看到这些快跑)

  • 🚩 The same batch of "winning IDs" repeatedly appears in the live stream room, with nicknames carrying similar prefixes or digital suffixes, and these IDs never speak or ask questions, appearing only when posting order screenshots.
  • 🚩 The host repeatedly claims "100% win rate" or "guaranteed win," but specific prize probabilities and drawing algorithms are never published on the product page and popup windows.
  • 🚩 The rhythm of comment sections flooding with "won" and "keep going" is highly unified, and even the exact same sentence repeats multiple times within seconds, suspected of machine-generated traffic boosting.
  • 🚩 After payment, logistics information shows the package weight is extremely light, clearly inconsistent with the actually advertised high-value figures and mobile phones, or shipping is delayed for a long time.
  • 🚩 Customer service refuses to provide drawing records, probability publication pages, and prize issuance vouchers, repeatedly emphasizing only "system randomized" and "blind box special items do not support returns or exchanges."
  • 🚩 The live stream room displays disclaimers such as "card unboxing cannot be returned" and "blind boxes sold cannot be returned or exchanged," without conspicuously posting the real name and address of the operator.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ Before participating in any paid blind boxes, confirm whether the live stream room conspicuously posts prize probabilities, operator qualifications, and issuance records; if there are only verbal promises, exit immediately and take screenshots as evidence.
  • ✅ After payment, save live stream recordings, payment orders, winning page screenshots, and chat logs, and report within the platform at the first instance upon discovering goods do not match descriptions, requesting the platform to freeze the merchant's account.
  • ✅ Set a clear consumption limit for yourself, and forbid using overdraft tools such as Huabei and credit cards when emotionally excited; stop immediately upon consecutive losses, and avoid continuing to bet in order to "break even."
  • ✅ Upon encountering fraud, call the 12315 hotline or report online through the national 12315 platform; if a large amount is involved, bring payment vouchers to report to public security organs, and submit live streaming content together as suspected gambling evidence.
