Crypto Investment Pension Recovery Scam: Using 'Loss Recovery' as Bait to Double-Dip into Retirement Savings

Victims are mostly retirees over 60 with accumulated savings and pension funds. They often lack knowledge of blockchain and cryptocurrencies but are eager to increase their assets or desperate to recover previous losses. Their psychological vulnerabilities include difficulty identifying tech-based scams, a tendency to trust purported government or regulatory endorsements, and a loss of vigilance due to initial small-scale rebates or emotional manipulation. Faced with promises of high returns, they are easily persuaded to invest their life savings.

骗局怎么运作

  • After obtaining information about elderly individuals who have previously suffered investment losses through illegal channels, scammers pose as regulatory authorities or victim advocacy groups. They claim to have 'insider channels' to help recover lost funds through specific cryptocurrency schemes, gaining the seniors' initial trust and leading them into the trap.
  • Seniors are guided to download forged cryptocurrency investment apps or fake exchanges. Scammers use AI to generate fake profit screenshots and forged official documents, claiming endorsement by specific government departments, and insist that transferring pension money to a designated account is the only way to participate in the 'asset recovery plan.'
  • After the initial small investment, the system displays fake profits and allows withdrawals to create an illusion of legitimacy. Scammers then use phone calls and online messaging to provide emotional support, breaking down psychological defenses and inducing the victims to invest their entire life savings.
  • Once hundreds of thousands or millions are transferred, the fake platform blocks withdrawals, citing account anomalies or the need for 'security deposits' or 'unfreezing fees.' They then use the irreversible nature of digital currency transactions to quickly launder the funds, leaving victims with massive losses.
  • When victims demand refunds, the scam group introduces 'digital currency cards' or 'premium unfreezing packages,' demanding further payments to unlock funds. This leads to multiple rounds of ruthless exploitation until the victim's pension is completely drained and they are blocked and ghosted.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ Do not trust advocacy groups or regulatory bodies that contact you online. Official institutions will never request transfers or participation in cryptocurrency investments through personal social media accounts or unofficial channels.
  • ✅ Before making any investment, elderly individuals must communicate and verify with their children or community police. Do not download or install investment apps from unknown sources under the guidance of strangers.
  • ✅ Be wary of initial small rebates. Any investment project that promises guaranteed returns, high profits, and requires funds to be transferred to personal accounts or unknown platforms is a scam.
  • ✅ Once you find that you cannot withdraw funds or are asked to pay 'unfreezing fees' or other additional costs, stop transferring money immediately, preserve evidence such as chat logs and transfer receipts, and call 110 to report the crime immediately.
