Bitcoi (BTC2) Indian Copycat Scheme: AI Copy Trading + Locked Staking Used to Exploit South Asian Investors

Victims are primarily retail investors in South Asian countries such as India and Pakistan, as well as some overseas Chinese. They are enthusiastic about cryptocurrency trading but lack professional knowledge, making them easily misled by names like 'Bitcoi' or 'BTC2' that closely resemble 'Bitcoin,' leading them to believe these are local versions of major exchanges. Furthermore, they often have technical blind spots regarding new concepts like AI quantitative trading and high-frequency arbitrage, firmly believing that 'technology + locked staking' equals guaranteed profit. Fraudsters exploit their anxiety about making money, herd mentality, and gambling instincts by first building trust through small, successful withdrawals, then stripping them of their assets through rules like locked staking and 'unfreezing fees' until they lose everything.

Who Gets Targeted

骗局怎么运作

  • Impersonation Websites: Fraud rings quickly set up phishing websites or apps that mimic legitimate exchanges. They deliberately choose names like 'Bitcoi' or 'BTC2' that are nearly identical to 'Bitcoin,' clone the interfaces of mainstream platforms, and forge compliance credentials and regulatory filing screenshots to trick South Asian retail investors into believing they are using a local version of a major exchange.
  • AI Copy Trading Pitch: They use the latest AI intelligent quantitative trading, high-frequency arbitrage, and cross-border hedging bots as selling points. They claim that users only need to deposit funds to earn passive income, promising daily returns of 2% to 5% with 'guaranteed, risk-free' profits. They reinforce credibility by constantly posting screenshots of profits and trading activity in group chats, combining a sense of high-tech sophistication with high returns.
  • Small Withdrawals as Bait: Initially, they allow victims to withdraw small amounts of money, which are successfully received. They manually manipulate account data in the backend to show continuous, explosive profit growth, creating an illusion that the platform is reliable and the returns are real. This induces victims to deposit more principal and encourages them to invite friends and family to join, expanding the capital pool.
  • Locked Staking Harvest: Using rules such as 'deposit bonuses,' 'node staking rebates,' or 'limited-time premium memberships,' they force the locking of principal and profits, claiming that withdrawals are impossible during the lock-up period. During this time, they use excuses like 'system maintenance' or 'compliance reviews' to delay withdrawals, keeping the funds trapped on the platform until the victims are unable to escape.
  • Secondary Extortion: When victims demand to withdraw, the scammers demand payments for 'personal income tax,' 'unfreezing fees,' or 'verification deposits.' Once one fee is paid, a new one appears, creating a cycle of extortion until the victim realizes the truth or their wallet is completely drained. This is a typical secondary harvesting stage.
  • Exit Scam: Once the capital pool reaches the expected scale, the platform shuts down its servers under the guise of system maintenance or hacker attacks. Simultaneously, they rapidly split and transfer funds through multi-layered cryptocurrency wallets, mixers, and underground banks. Cross-border tracking is extremely difficult, and the probability of recovery after victims report the crime in places like the Philippines or India is very low.

  • 🚩 The name and logo deliberately imitate well-known exchanges (e.g., Bitcoi/BTC2 vs. Bitcoin), but domain registration information, company contact details, and official filings are unverifiable.
  • 🚩 Claims of AI bots providing 'guaranteed, risk-free' daily returns of 2% to 5%. Legitimate, regulated exchanges never use 'guaranteed returns' or 'locked staking' as a means to attract retail investors; such language is a hallmark of a Ponzi scheme.
  • 🚩 Forced requirements for locked staking, node staking, or VIP upgrades to withdraw funds. Any withdrawal is met with pre-conditions like taxes, unfreezing fees, or deposits, with an endless variety of excuses.
  • 🚩 The app can only be downloaded via obscure links in Telegram or WhatsApp groups and cannot be found on mainstream app stores. The source of the installation package is highly suspicious.
  • 🚩 Screenshots of profits and trading calls in the group are posted repeatedly by the same group of 'shills.' Customer service only talks about profits and deposits, avoiding questions about credentials, licenses, or audits, using highly templated scripts.
  • 🚩 Payment accounts are frequently changed to personal accounts or third-party wallet addresses that do not match the claimed exchange entity, with funds often transferred to overseas or anonymous channels.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ Only download trading apps from official app stores. Do not click on installation links in group chats, text messages, or web pop-ups. Verify official domain names, filings, and company information one by one; anything that does not match should be treated as a fake.
  • ✅ Before depositing, check if the platform holds a regulatory license in India, China, or other relevant jurisdictions. Compare the name and logo with the official exchange website, and check the blacklist on the official websites of local financial regulators. Do not invest a single cent without verification.
  • ✅ Stick to three red lines: promises of guaranteed returns, forced locked staking, and requirements to pay fees before withdrawing. If any of these are present, it is a Ponzi scheme. Stop depositing immediately and exit all related groups.
  • ✅ If you have already deposited, save transfer receipts, chat logs, app installation packages, and website snapshots immediately. Report the case to local police, anti-fraud centers, or financial regulators. For cross-border cases, you can simultaneously apply to freeze the involved wallets through bilateral judicial cooperation channels.
  • ✅ Set 'high returns always come with high risks' as your investment bottom line. Do not let your emotions be swayed by profit screenshots or mentor scripts in groups. Refuse any promotional arrangements that require recruiting others to unlock profits or increase profit caps to avoid becoming an accomplice from a victim.
