AI voice cloning impersonating bank customer service to defraud elderly people into transferring money
Victims are mostly seniors over 70 living relatively lonely lives, lacking financial literacy, highly trusting of phone calls from their children, and often worried about being scammed out of money by their children or relatives, making them vulnerable to being coerced into transferring money by so-called 'bank customer service' under urgent emotional stress. Their psychological weaknesses include blind trust in authority figures, an urgent response to family distress calls, and unfamiliarity with high-tech means, leading to a decreased ability to discern threats.

骗局怎么运作
- Step 1: Fraud rings collect phone recordings of the target elderly person's children or relatives through social media or stolen data channels, especially segments involving money and requests for help, to train voice cloning models;
- Step 2: Using deep learning voice synthesis technology, voice cloning samples of relatives such as children and grandchildren are generated to ensure a high degree of realism in tone, accent, and emotional expression;
- Step 3: Fraudsters disguise themselves as bank customer service or public security organs, actively call the elderly person's mobile phone, and use synthesized voice to claim account anomalies or sudden family emergencies, requiring an immediate transfer to a designated account to stop losses;
- Step 4: Fraudsters deliberately create an urgent atmosphere during the call, such as prompting 'if you do not operate within 3 minutes, the account will be frozen', and provide seemingly real bank transfer links or have the elderly person remit directly to a designated account;
- Step 5: After completing the transfer, fraudsters immediately hang up and disappear by changing numbers. If the elderly person calls the police, because the voice has been cloned, it brings extreme difficulty to evidence collection.

How to Protect Yourself
- ✅ Strictly guard against strangers calling proactively and providing personal or bank information. If you receive a call claiming to be bank customer service, hang up first and dial the official customer service hotline yourself to verify
- ✅ Do not blindly trust transfer links or QR codes provided by others. If a transfer is necessary, please operate through the official bank app or counter, and check the payee account information
- ✅ If you receive a voice message asking for urgent help, you can first verify the true situation with your children or relatives, and if necessary, have them handle the business in person at the bank
- ✅ Enable mobile incoming call blocking and anti-harassment functions, regularly update mobile systems and security software to avoid being exploited by pseudo-base stations or number spoofing technology
