AI Senior Health Advisor Scam—Impersonating Healthcare and Nursing Care to Steal Pension Funds

The main victims are retired seniors aged 60 and above and their children, especially silver-haired individuals who live alone, lack professional knowledge in health management, and are curious about new AI technologies but lack awareness of precautions. Most scammed individuals are elderly people who have long relied on past life experiences and blindly trust that 'seeing is believing.' According to data from the Ministry of Public Security, in the first quarter of 2025 alone, the number of national AI face-swapping and voice-cloning fraud cases surged by 45% quarter-on-quarter, with elderly groups accounting for 38% of those scammed (Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, briefing on 2026-04-13). The combination of health anxiety and information gaps makes them extremely vulnerable to being trapped by 'AI health advisor' scripts. Losses are primarily characterized by pension savings being transferred away all at once, with individual scam amounts ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of yuan; the majority of funds cannot be withdrawn, resulting in a total loss.

Who Gets Targeted

The main victims are retired seniors aged 60 and above and their children, especially silver-haired individuals who live alone, lack professional knowledge in health management, and are curious about new AI technologies but lack awareness of precautions. 骗局怎么运作

  • Step 1: Fraud syndicates launch ads disguised as official health management platforms via social media, short-video platforms, or telemarketing. The copy claims to use the latest AI technology to provide permanently free physical exams, medication reminders, and medical insurance reimbursement services, paired with AI face-swapping videos of real doctors or nurses to build credibility.
  • Step 2: After seeing the so-called 'AI health advisor,' the victimized senior or their child is guided to fill in personal basic information and pension fund account information. The scammers claim this information is needed to complete system login and activate services, using professional terminology to generate trust in the victim.
  • Step 3: Platform 'customer service' uses AI-synthesized voice or video calls, pretending to be professional doctors or medical insurance specialists, to explain that the victim has developed a high-risk disease or medical insurance reimbursement abnormality, requiring immediate payment of a certain fee for 'AI precision diagnosis and treatment' or 'rapid reimbursement channels.' They create a sense of urgency, saying things like 'If not handled within a day, medical insurance will be suspended.'
  • Step 4: Scammers provide multiple payment channels, including bank transfers, WeChat, and Alipay, and embed QR codes or links resembling official interfaces on the payment page, inducing victims to directly transfer their pension funds or savings into controlled accounts. They claim that a diagnostic report or reimbursement voucher will be received immediately after payment.
  • Step 5: Once the transfer is completed, the so-called 'AI health advisor' immediately stops contact or stops replying under the pretext of system upgrades. Victims discover their funds have been stolen, and because personal health information is involved, they often dare not seek help from the outside world, leading to further expansion of risks.

  • 🚩 Advertising copy contains exaggerated words such as 'AI smart customer service,' 'free physical exam,' 'zero fee,' 'latest technology,' and 'officially certified.'
  • 🚩 Demanding victims provide pension fund or bank account information to activate services.
  • 🚩 Using urgency to rush payments, such as claiming 'medical insurance is about to be suspended' or 'critical illness requires immediate handling.'
  • 🚩 Payment pages are highly similar to those of regular financial institutions, yet use unofficial QR codes or links.
  • 🚩 Customer service uses highly simulated voice/video, but conversations contain vague technical explanations or dare not provide real-name customer service numbers.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ When receiving a call or message from someone claiming to be an AI health advisor, first verify the other party's identity by directly calling the public phone numbers of local official medical insurance or medical institutions.
  • ✅ Never provide personal pension funds, bank accounts, or ID information on unofficial channels, especially when it is claimed that 'activating services' is required.
  • ✅ Remain skeptical of any promotional information demanding immediate payment, and be sure to verify the authenticity of fees through familiar regular channels (such as official apps or bank customer service).
  • ✅ It is recommended that seniors and their children regularly participate in anti-fraud publicity organized by communities or official institutions, learn common AI face-swapping and voice-synthesis fraud methods, and improve self-protection awareness.
