AI Face-Swap Fake Soldier Pig-Butchering Scam: Inducing Fraudulent Investments Under the Guise of Online Romance

The victims are predominantly single women aged 30 to 55—especially ordinary individuals who are eager to find a partner, harbor a strong desire for emotional attachment, and lack experience in investment and financial management. In addition, some widowed or divorced middle-aged and elderly individuals are more susceptible to emotional offensives due to pronounced feelings of loneliness. Scammers exploit three psychological weaknesses of victims: natural trust in a soldier's identity, a longing for intimate relationships, and greed for high-yield investments. They first build emotional dependency through companionship-style chatting, then block offline verification under the pretext of military discipline, and finally lure the victim into making large transfers using internal investment channels as bait. Victims often persist in remitting funds despite dissuasion from family and friends, suffering losses ranging from tens of thousands to nearly a million yuan, leaving many heavily in debt or financially ruined.

骗局怎么运作

  • Precise AI Traffic Generation and Persona Construction: Scam syndicates register batches of accounts on social platforms such as Douyin, Momo, and Soul. They use AI to generate attractive male avatars in military uniforms alongside daily life photos, cooperating with automated script systems to proactively approach female users. The script library covers multiple dimensions such as caring greetings, military camp stories, and investment insights, automatically matching responses based on victim replies. Hundreds of direct messages can be delivered within 24 hours to filter out target users with high response rates and strong emotional needs for the next stage of deep cultivation.
  • Emotional Cultivation and Romantic Lock-In: After entering deep chatting, dedicated personnel take over the accounts for one-on-one emotional cultivation, providing scheduled daily greetings, sharing daily military camp life, and offering voice companionship to help victims fall asleep, quickly establishing a romantic relationship within 1 to 2 weeks. Scammers deliberately project a positive image of strict military discipline, loyalty, and reliability, evading offline meetings and continuous video calls under excuses such as military confidentiality regulations and field training. Meanwhile, accomplices are arranged in group chats to play the roles of comrades-in-arms and family members for side endorsement, layering the deception so that the victim is utterly convinced.
  • AI Face-Swap Video Breaking Through Verification Defenses: When victims or their relatives and friends question the other party's authenticity, scammers activate real-time AI face-swapping and voice-mimicking software, disguising themselves as military officers in uniform for video calls. The technical principle involves pre-collecting military image materials to train deepfake models, mapping the operator's face in real time to an officer's face with synchronized voice modification. Elements such as military rank shoulder insignia and barracks backgrounds are visible in the video. Even if victims ask the other party to touch their face or turn their head, the face-swap model completes tracking and rendering within millisecond-level latency, making traditional verification methods almost completely ineffective.
  • Inducing Top-Ups on Fake Investment Platforms: Once emotional trust is established, scammers send fake wealth management app or investment website links to victims under the pretext of possessing internal military investment channels for gold, foreign exchange, or military-industrial projects. Initial small-scale capital inputs of 500 to 5,000 yuan immediately show account profits and successful withdrawals, creating an illusion of low risk and high returns. Subsequently, tactics such as favorable market conditions and doubling down with increased positions guide victims to progressively add investments. When victims apply for withdrawals after accumulating deposits totaling 100,000 to 500,000 yuan, the platform continues to squeeze out the final funds under the pretext of requiring margin deposits or unfreezing fees.
  • Loot Distribution, Money Laundering, and Disappearance: Once victims realize they have been scammed or their funds are exhausted, scammers immediately close the fake investment platform, deactivate social accounts, dissolve group chats, and delete all chat histories. Funds are distributed across multi-tier bank accounts and laundered out of the country through cryptocurrencies or underground money changers. The syndicate forms a complete division of labor chain covering traffic generation, cultivation, technology, and money laundering. Cross-border operations make recovering stolen property extremely difficult, and victims often remain unable to recover any funds months after reporting the crime to the police.

红旗信号(看到这些快跑)

  • 🚩 The online romantic partner's avatar and Moments photos are excessively exquisite and perfect, with multiple photos highly uniform in style yet lacking real-life details, suspected to be batch-generated AI military image materials.
  • 🚩 The speed of establishing a romantic relationship is abnormally fast, often using terms like 'darling' or 'wife' within a week, yet consistently refusing offline meetings under excuses such as military discipline, confidential missions, and field training, while limiting the duration of video calls due to poor signal or confidentiality.
  • 🚩 During video calls, subtle blurring or flickering appears at the edges of the other party's face, facial feature tracking exhibits delay or displacement during rapid movements like turning the head or looking down, and voice and lip movements are slightly out of sync, suggesting the use of real-time AI face-swapping and voice-mimicking technology.
  • 🚩 The so-called investment channels point to informal apps or obscure websites without publicly disclosed financial licenses or bank custody information, with top-ups directing funds to personal accounts or third-party payment masks rather than corporate accounts; withdrawals require additional payment of margin deposits, unfreezing fees, or taxes, constituting typical pig-butchering characteristics.
  • 🚩 Multiple highly active comrade-in-arms or relative accounts appear in the group chat or Moments to endorse them, but these accounts have short registration times and single interaction records, suspected to be actor roles played by accomplices.
  • 🚩 The other party repeatedly emphasizes mastering internal military investment news or military-industrial project channels, interrupts inquiries with excuses like confidentiality, and exerts pressure using a special status to urge fund transfers, creating a sense of urgency.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ During video calls, ask the other party to perform designated actions such as touching their ears, pinching their nose, turning their head rapidly, or covering their face with their hands, and observe whether facial edges show blurring, flickering, or signs of delayed facial feature tracking, as AI face-swapping easily breaks down under complex movements.
  • ✅ Resolutely refuse to click or download any investment and financial app links or QR codes sent by online romantic partners, and do not transfer or top up funds into personal accounts of unfamiliar individuals whom you have not met offline. All investments should be conducted through official channels of regular licensed financial institutions.
  • ✅ Upon discovering that the other party is reluctant to meet offline, promises low risk and high returns, or demands top-ups into personal accounts, immediately consult the 96110 anti-fraud hotline or head to the local police station for verification, and do not rush to remit funds driven by pressure from the other party's special status.
  • ✅ Install and activate the call-warning and app-detection functions of the National Anti-Fraud Center app on your smartphone to promptly intercept suspected scam calls and malicious apps; set up privacy protection on social platforms to avoid displaying real photos and personal information to strangers.
  • ✅ If you discover you have been defrauded, call 110 immediately to report the crime, making sure to preserve all evidence including chat histories, transfer records, app screenshots, and video call recordings while freezing the suspect's receiving accounts. The faster you report, the higher the likelihood of recovering losses.
