AI Claims Bot Advance Payment Scam: Impersonating Customer Service to Induce Advance Payments and Disappearing

The primary victims are car owners lacking professional insurance knowledge and blindly trusting automated services, particularly novice drivers or ride-hailing practitioners who experience accidents at night, urgently need car repairs, and are in a tense emotional state. When an accident suddenly occurs, they are prone to trusting quick claims promises found on the internet, eager to resolve the issue while overlooking the verification of the other party's corporate qualifications. Having a natural layer of technical authority bias toward intelligent customer service, they mistakenly assume that receiving a QR code or advance payment instruction is the standard system process of a legitimate insurance company, thereby scanning the QR code and transferring funds under high-pressure talking points.

Who Gets Targeted

骗局怎么运作

  • Scammers use short videos or internet search ads for traffic acquisition, approaching car owners under the banner of intelligent ultra-fast claims or auto insurance concierge services. When car owners experience minor scratches or night accidents and urgently seek processing solutions, scammers use automated bots disguised as insurance company customer service to proactively provide accident damage assessment and claims consulting services, utilizing fluent model interactions to initially build the victim's trust.
  • After receiving the accident photos uploaded by the car owner, the bot invokes a preset script library to quickly generate a seemingly professional damage assessment report, informing the car owner that due to system settlement or advance payment for car repair down payments, they must first scan a code to pay a claims activation fee or an expedited fee of several hundred yuan, promising that it will be refunded to the car owner's account along with the claims payment subsequently, thereby extracting the initial funds.
  • The bot sends a model-generated QR code or fake payment link to the car owner. The interface has a very high degree of visual simulation and embeds the name of a well-known insurance company, but in reality, the payee is an unverified personal account or a fictitious third-party collection channel. At this point, the bot applies high-pressure tactics such as claiming that the system timeout will automatically cancel claims eligibility, creating panic to interrupt the car owner's time for verification and reflection.
  • After the car owner scans the code and pays, the bot instead instructs the car owner to provide sensitive information such as claims bank accounts, or continues to induce multiple transfers on the grounds of tax audits or security deposits. If the car owner becomes suspicious and requests a refund, the bot continues to stall on the grounds that the loop is not yet closed and requires manual review, using pre-set scripts to cyclically respond to the victim's questioning and further extract remaining value.
  • Upon successful collection, scammers quickly transfer the funds and cancel the relevant social media accounts or mini-program platforms, after which the claims bot channel completely loses contact. Car owners not only fail to obtain the promised car repair claims payments, but even their initially advanced funds are swept away. Subsequent comprehensive investigations often fail to lock down the true perpetrators due to dispersed and hidden collection channels, virtualization of the malicious vector, and unregistered platform entities.

红旗信号(看到这些快跑)

  • 🚩 Any auto insurance service that requires advance payment of funds or scanning a QR code to pay in order to activate claims is abnormal. Regular auto insurance claims processes only collect premiums stipulated in the insurance contract and will not request claims activation fees or processing fees.
  • 🚩 Customer service conversations appear as rigid, repetitive fixed scripts, and the QR codes or payment links sent during communication do not display the official corporate name of a regular insurance company, but instead point to personal accounts or unregistered third-party collection channels.
  • 🚩 The so-called claims platform cannot provide a real insurance license number, or no such institution can be found on the official website of the National Financial Regulatory Administration, and the service in application stores or relevant mini-programs is merely a makeshift setup without a registered entity.
  • 🚩 The transaction process is extremely hurried, using psychological pressure tactics such as the loss of claims eligibility due to timeout to prevent victims from leaving the conversation to seek third-party verification or consult with relatives and friends, deliberately compressing the space for calm reflection.
  • 🚩 The claims promised by customer service ignore actual risk types and disclaimer clauses, instantly pricing any accident and guaranteeing full payout, and the communication completely detaches from the insurance company's standard reporting hotline and official client regular channels.

真实案例

  • According to CNR reports in April 2026, a car owner blindly trusted a QR code provided by a large model and directly transferred 1,618 yuan of insurance premiums into a personal account. Criminals used conversation generation disguised as regular auto insurance underwriting channels to induce victims to scan the code and pay, ultimately purchasing an invalid policy while the other party subsequently lost contact. • According to Tencent News reports in March 2026, a driver who had a car accident while driving at night attempted to report the claim, only to find that the so-called insurance institution they contacted via online channels had completely lost contact. They had been induced earlier to pay various service fees under various names, and later found that the platform did not possess any insurance business qualifications, resulting in the total loss of advanced funds.
  • CCTV.com exposed related cases in March 2026 where some car owners were induced to participate in free car repair and advance cash-back processes after suffering vehicle damage. In reality, this involved criminals forging false claims or traffic accidents to extract funds, and related behaviors constituted the crime of insurance fraud, with some participating car owners also facing defense difficulties and financial losses.
  • In April 2026, car owner Mr. Wang suffered a single-vehicle accident while driving his family sedan and received a call from someone claiming to be an official claims specialist of an insurance company. The person claimed that full claims could be handled on his behalf through an 'internal green channel,' inducing him to fill in his bank card number, ID number, and SMS verification code. Subsequently, 28,000 yuan was deducted from his bank card, and the other party immediately lost contact. This case was disclosed by Dinghe Insurance and reported by Guizhou Broadcasting Television on May 15, 2026. • In a 'claims scalper' fraud case disclosed by AIA Life Insurance Jiangsu Branch, a nearly 60-year-old ride-hailing driver was hospitalized after a traffic accident and induced by scammers claiming to be 'professional claims consultants' to sign a commission agreement under the guise of 'internal connections and fast claims processing.' They agreed to charge only a 10% service fee, pre-paid 500 yuan as an 'expedited fee,' and subsequently requested fees multiple times under the pretext of 'smoothing relations,' disappearing after defrauding a total of 3,000 yuan. This case was reported by Financial News on September 16, 2026. Official Stance

  • The Beijing Financial Regulatory Bureau issued a warning in March 2026 through channels such as CCTV News, reminding the public to be alert to free car repair traps, prevent intentional collisions to defraud insurance payouts, and explicitly pointing out that some behaviors are suspected of constituting the crime of insurance fraud.
  • Zhongyuan Agricultural Insurance Co., Ltd. issued a warning in the risk warning column of its official website, reminding the majority of car owners to purchase insurance and file claims through regular channels, and not to blindly trust QR codes or links sent by unofficial online platforms requiring payment.
  • China Pacific Property Insurance Co., Ltd. published a special article themed on explaining cases through practice on its official website on September 19, 2025, warning against claims scalpers, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, and preventing them from being induced by black-industry personnel to make advance payments or transfers during the claims process.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ After a traffic accident occurs, you must directly call the official customer service hotline of the regular insurance company you are insured with or use its official client application to report and claim, never downloading so-called claims tools through search engines or unknown links.
  • ✅ Any demand during the claims process for advance funding, payment of insurance claims activation fees, QR code transfers to personal accounts, or unverified third-party channels should be resolutely rejected and immediately treated as fraud.
  • ✅ Verify customer service identity and platform qualifications. If the other party claims to be insurance personnel, check whether the institution and personnel possess a legal practicing license number through the official website of the National Financial Regulatory Administration, and strictly prohibit providing bank card information without verification.
  • ✅ When encountering payment QR codes sent by so-called bots, remain vigilant, do not blindly trust any payment instructions automatically generated by machines, and immediately contact human customer service of the insurance company via official phone numbers to confirm the authenticity of the process.
