AI Reputation Laundering Scam: Charging exorbitant PR fees by claiming to use AI to mass-generate positive content to whitewash negative corporate news

Victims are primarily companies and film/TV production teams facing sudden negative publicity, including listed companies, automakers, and film crews. When negative information spreads, they often panic, fearing impacts on stock prices, box office performance, or brand image. Desperate for a solution, they fall for black PR firms claiming to offer 'full-network cleansing' and 'positive coverage.' These victims typically lack experience in crisis management and do not understand the mechanics of AI-generated content. Psychologically, they rely on 'paying for peace' and are willing to spend hundreds of thousands or even millions to 'eliminate the impact quickly,' only to lose money and potentially be blackmailed further by the perpetrators.

Victims are primarily companies and film/TV production teams facing sudden negative publicity, including listed companies, automakers, and film crews. 骗局怎么运作

  • Step 1: Black PR firms use AI to mass-generate negative information about a company, or use web crawlers to scrape old news and debunked posts, which are then rewritten by large models into seemingly authentic negative articles. These are published across multiple low-barrier content platforms to create a panic atmosphere of 'the company is being attacked across the entire internet,' forcing the company to contact them.
  • Step 2: They contact the company as 'PR crisis consultants,' presenting a meticulously crafted report on negative sentiment. They claim that 'if not handled immediately, it will escalate into a trending crisis,' and even hint that they possess more undisclosed damaging information, applying pressure while setting the stage for their 'whitewashing services.'
  • Step 3: They offer 'brand whitewashing packages' ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of yuan, claiming they can use AI to mass-generate positive articles, advertorials, and fake news, which are then posted to low-authority websites and self-media accounts to 'suppress negative news and boost rankings.' In reality, this content is low-quality, template-generated, and quickly removed by platforms, making the effects unsustainable.
  • Step 4: They charge additional 'post-deletion fees,' promising to remove negative links through internal connections or mass reporting. However, legitimate platforms have strict content moderation mechanisms, making private deletion nearly impossible. They either stall by claiming it is 'in progress' or deceive the company with photoshopped 'processed' screenshots. If the company demands a refund, they threaten to continue the exposure.
  • Step 5: After payment, the black PR firm uses the same AI tools to forge 'service performance reports,' showing screenshots of improved rankings for positive terms and the suppression of negative pages, while constantly demanding more fees for 'expedited optimization.' In reality, the negative information is only temporarily buried under massive amounts of junk content. After a few weeks, the truth emerges, while the scammers have already changed their identities and moved the funds, leaving behind a trail of unfulfilled promises.

红旗信号(看到这些快跑)

  • 🚩 Claims of 'full-network positive suppression' and 'unlimited generation of whitewashing articles,' yet the case study websites shown are obscure, content-farm sites lacking authoritative media sources.
  • 🚩 Quotes are significantly higher than legitimate PR firms, and they demand payment before service, refusing to use corporate accounts or formal contracts, only accepting personal payment codes.
  • 🚩 They proactively contact the company with a pre-prepared, detailed negative sentiment report, and the negative content appears concentrated in the same time frame, suggesting a self-directed scheme.
  • 🚩 They promise 'negative content deletion' but refuse to explain the specific channels, vaguely citing 'connections' or 'technical processing,' and cannot provide a verifiable operational process.
  • 🚩 The 'optimization results' screenshots are blurry, links are inaccessible, or they show only timestamps without actual page content, failing to withstand scrutiny.

How to Protect Yourself

  • ✅ When facing negative publicity, companies should immediately contact a legitimate law firm or professional PR agency and never pay 'whitewashing agencies' that proactively reach out via social media.
  • ✅ Save call recordings, chat logs, quotes, and payment receipts from black PR firms, and report them to the Cyberspace Administration or the police immediately.
  • ✅ For so-called 'AI whitewashing' services, demand real successful case studies, formal contracts, and a verifiable list of media resources, and reject any 'payment before service' demands.
  • ✅ If attacked by AI-generated articles, submit evidence through the platform's official reporting channels and wait for the platform to delete or label the content according to the law. Do not pay for private 'deletion services' to avoid falling into secondary extortion.
